You Are What You Eat

One of the leading causes of health issues in America is heart disease and stroke, primarily caused by poor diet. In The United States in 2010 alone, nearly 600,000 individuals passed away due to heart problems. To bring awareness of this rising health issue, we placed the public health sticker on Chuck’s Natural Food Marketplace a grocery that advocates healthy and organic food. Public health prevents diseases and promotes healthy lifestyle. Similarly, Chuck’s Marketplace supports the essence of public health. The grocery store has a vast majority of healthy products that ranges from: healthy organic spices to organic fruits.  So many Americans consume a large amount of processed, fat and sodium filled foods.   Across Chuck’s marketplace, is a vast majority of fast food restaurants (McDonalds, Burger King).  It is very easy for people to choose a meal that is fast and cheap, in comparison, to making a meal that will have a greater benefit on their life, as well as, their family.  Unfortunately, those well-known restaurants over shadow Chuck’s Marketplace and the many healthy options it has to offer.  The vitamin section of Chuck’s Marketplace is very important to public health. We bump into many cases where vitamins can become an important factor in our life because we may not consume all of the vitamins we need. If we take vitamin supplements that we do not consume throughout our day we are able to avoid many health problems compared to, not having this vitamin intake.  This beneficial marketplace is overlooked by many people in our community and with heart disease being the leading cause of death within the U.S., eating healthy is a step towards beating the battle of obesity in America and is important to provide people access to healthier food choices.

  2. Healthcare in the United States is certainly not the best system. By promoting preventive medicine, we can enhance the wellness of the population. Spreading awareness of organic food stores such as Chuck’s marketplace will definitely improve the lives of people and initiate healthy choices.

  3. I agree that many times the convenience of a product overshadows the quality of a product. The idea to put the sticker up at Chuck's marketplace is great because the store is promoting healthier eating which will lead to a healthier life. Another possible hindrance that causes people to not buy health food is the price. Speaking from experience, organic food is a lot more expensive then processed or treated foods. Despite the price, the availability of an organic market is great.

  4. I agree that many places such as Check's marketplace are overlooked because of the convenience of fast food restaurants. People are choosing the convenience of going through the drive through instead of spending their money on quality and nutritious food. This is public health because obesity and heart disease are major problems today and this shows an alternative to current food choices.

  5. I love this article because I didn't even know a place like this was nearby me. I totally agree and support companies such as Check's marketplace. It's sad to see that so many fast food restaurant over power the healthy industries; however with that said, it is all about choice. People choose the current satisfaction, and don't worry about the long term effects. Their mindset is, "If I can get a burger for 49cents, why should I pay for 1.99 for a pound of broccoli." The economy is everything! We work, we eat, we sleep, we struggle, and most live from pay check to pay check. Who has time to look for nutritious food, it's all about finding the cheapest thing that will help sustain me for the time being. As the mind set grows, so will our stomachs, and the rise of our Health Care cost. I just wish the majority would understand this, and choose the better option.

  6. It is a shame that so many organic food markets are overshadowed by larger and more unhealthy institutions, as so many health issues in our nation could be solved by consuming more wholesome and nutritious foods, as you brought up in this post. So much research has soon the negative effects of a high sodium and fat diet, and has been a major factor in generating the heart and obesity issues her in America today. Hopefully, our generation will learn to seek out healthier alternatives, such as Chuck's, for our food, so that we may live a longer and more sustainable lifestyle.

  7. Thanks for this post you guys! It's very detrimental to me at this point in my life ever since I've been on the path to a healthier lifestyle. I believe every word you wrote that's why instead of eating as much meat as normally do, I use vegetables and tofu as a substitute. And instead of grabbing a bag of skittles or Twizzlers for a snack, I eat organic fruits or Buddy Fruits all natural snacks to take care of my sweet tooth! I wanna feel and look better and I know that taking care of myself to the best pf my ability will help me achieve just that. I didn't even know about this organic grocery store. Go figure, the restaurants/grocery stores that can lead to a healthier living are the least popular. This is something that I'd like to change in America sooner rather than later. This and also the fact that organic food is twice as expensive as GMO or conventional foods. This has got to stop! Great post!

  8. It is important that we practice healthy eating habits at a young age. And, yes understandably it is cheaper to eat fast food, and as college students probably even more convenient. However, it is important that we keep in mind the long term benefits associated with eating healthy, and the life threatening consequence of not eating healthy! Also, in regards to organic foods, it can be especially expensive for college students. However, this shouldn't stop us from considering other healthy alternatives. Nothing taste as good, as being healthy feels! Remember it next time you're debating between going to Mcd's or a grocery store! In addition to eating healthier, it's is important that we stay active!

  9. I believe this type of food market is great to promote healthy eating
habits. If more people would decide to go to this grocery store to
make a healthy cooked meal instead of the fast food restaurants across
the way, heart disease and obesity rates would most likely cut down. I
like the fact that the store has a great vitamin section for people to
get the appropriate nutrients that they need. Healthy eating not only
involves picking out nutritious food, but also supplying the body with
good vitamins. Obesity and heart disease is a huge public health issue
and a great way to get started is to cut down on the junk and pick out
healthier meals from a grocery store such as Chuck's because it is a
    Natural Food Store.

  10. Your blog title says it all! This is a core public health focus (as seen by these alarming statistics). I just read an article the other day called, "The American Diet: A Sweet Way to Die." After I read this post I immediately remembered the article I read about the American Diet and the association with chronic health problems.
