Emergency medical services are often at the forefront of treating patients. Ambulances are part of a working machine that coincides with health care providers. These vehicles provide advanced or basic life support that act in prolonging an individual’s life until a physician is present. EMS ensures that communities have trained emergency medical responders who are always available to respond to emergencies. While extensive medical treatment may be given at the hospital, ambulances deliver rapid and proficient treatment. Emergency medical services are an essential part of the public health system.
This particular field of Public Health includes the state licensing of Emergency Medical Technicians and the quality control, disaster readiness and further regulation of competent emergency medical care for all. EMS Public Health specialists ensure a harmonized EMS system that works smoothly to provide fast, emergency care to all citizens. We thought that this was an important aspect of the Public Health World and that it might be overlooked by many because of its association with hospitals, however, ambulances and EMS are extremely important to the well-being of the population.

This is a very important aspect of Public health. People sometimes do not realize how important ambulances are. Being able to dial 3 numbers and have help in less than 15 minutes is very vital to everyday living. I've lived in a country where there is absolutely no form of emergency medical services and the death rate for sometimes minor events is incredibly high. Having and EMS in place saves thousands of lives. EMT's are also incredibly important. So many lives are saved in the few minutes they spend in an ambulance with an EMT before they get to the ER. Ambulances play a great role in public health.
ReplyDeleteThe high school I went to offered a First Responder course, which allowed me to experience hands-on how important the EMS is and how vital an ambulance is in emergency care. If you think about it, so many more lives can be saved each day because we have the resources in an ambulance to actually try and stable someone's life. Every ride along I went, the importance of an ambulance became more and more clear to me. Overall the experience was very eye-opening because I saw people being bandaged for bad cuts, to people experiencing strokes, to people's vitals dropping but, they were all somewhat stabilized until we reached a hospital because of the equipment in the ambulance and the first responder team. I'd say that the ambulance plays a very vital role in public health.
ReplyDeleteI agree guys, I think we under appreciate the importance of EMS providers. Because they are required to be state licensed and regulated, Public Health is active here on the state level. Emergency Response is a huge reason why so many lives are saved today. Ambulances and the first responders are a crucial role and without their help and the requirements that public health requires, there would be a lot more lives lost.
ReplyDeleteMy father is a fire captain and works hand and hand with EMTs and Paramedics. The challenges that first responders face, daily, doing their job are colossal. Something also very interesting to me that my father shared with me is that high-level first responders have extensive training in dealing with threats to national security. They are trained in dealing with toxic agents that would be used in bio-terrorism, and as a fire fighter he is even training in how to handle explosives. These people are doing a lot more than providing medical care on the go and putting out fire. They are the ones who have to get right at it, and protect the public.
