"Workout Better"

Anytime Fitness
Anytime Fitness on Fowler and 56thstreet gives everyone the opportunity to have access to a healthier lifestyle through exercise. Not only do they have locations all around the world, they are also open 24 hours a day and 7 days a week! It is available to its members who work late-night shifts or those who just want to fit in an early morning workout session. This poster in particular, is a part of  Anytime Fitness's "anytime health" campaign that is accessible through their website. The Workout Better section (this poster), allows members to build better workouts by giving them access to hundreds of exercise videos. Some videos are custom for people at different life stages and also those with various health conditions. It also allows you to set your own workout schedule with email reminders for motivation!

60% of all adults in the US are considered overweight. Obesity is one of the biggest public health issues of our century, affecting both adults and children. A child having overweight parents is more likely to be overweight themselves. Obesity contributes to a large number of preventable health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, and even cancer.  These conditions may be chronic or possibly deadly. Exercise has been scientifically proven to decrease the chances of obesity and ultimately, preventing health conditions caused by being overweight.

This poster is Public health because Anytime Fitness is focusing on promoting health through exercise! By giving their members 24/7 access to the gym, and having easily accessible workout plans and diets on the internet, Anytime Fitness is doing their part in promoting the overall well-being of our nation!

  1. I think this post is very appropriate for this generation because of the high obesity numbers found in America today. It is sad seeing people who are not treating their body the way they should because, as you explained here, work out facilities are making it easier and easier to change your lifestyle and get yourself back on a healthy track. They are lowering their membership fees so more people can afford them and their hours are perfect for the working class. It is called Anytime Fitness for a reason. If you can't fit a good, healthy work out in in the morning, you could go really late at night. Either way, fitness centers are working hard to try to get America back in shape for their own good. Like you mentioned, there are so many deathly diseases that are completely avoidable just by simply hopping on a stationary bike or elliptical a couple times a week for thirty minutes. I agree fully with your statement about this being public health because it is promoting people to make healthier decisions with their work out plans and making it easier for them to succeed.

  2. I loved this post because I am completely in favor of exercise. I believe it is one of the main primary preventions individuals should participate. It decreases the probability of developing chronic diseases such as: obesity, heart disease, diabetes, etc. I believe all health providers should encourage exercise and make it a priority for all. I am a member of Any Time Fitness and I personally love it because gives the opportunity to exercise at any time no matter my availability. Having a gym that is open 24 hours a day is very engaging because time will not be an excuse to not exercise. I really liked the location the group chose to place the sticker because I believe the poster includes many Public Health measures and provides individuals with many essentials to improve their lifestyles. Many times, individuals decide not to begin an exercise program or do not keep up with a routine because they do not know where to begin, are misinformed, or just need some company. This poster and website provides an incentive for individuals to move from a contemplation stage into action.

  3. I think what this organization is doing is probably one of the best examples of Public Health. It encompasses public education about how to maintain health (through instructional exercise videos in this example), it provides an opportunity and a place to engage in such healthy practices, and ultimately does the preventative legwork needed to increase the healthcare outcomes of individuals in our nation. In class, we see examples of how public health took charge to combat major illnesses like Cholera, first identifying the problem, devising how to fix it, and then raising awareness for the population, so that they can take matters into their own hands. In modern times, while major infectious bacteria are no longer as huge of a threat, now obesity and chronic diseases are at the forefront of public health’s interests. By encouraging, educating, providing access, and raising awareness about exercise, this organization, Anytime Fitness, is following the path of public health in modern times!
